Frequently Asked Questions

  • Please read my about and approach pages. We can also have a free 15-minute consultation where you can get a good sense of me. If after that 15-minute consultation you feel it’s not a good fit, that is completely okay. A huge part of therapy is finding a provider you like and feel comfortable with. I can always provide resources/referrals if we are not a good fit.

  • Whatever you say in therapy stays in therapy. However, there are times when a therapist is legally obligated to break confidentiality.

    • If you are in imminent danger of hurting yourself or someone else

    • If there is a suspicion of child or elder abuse

    • If Your files are subpoenaed by the court

    • If the client experiences a health emergency during the session.

  • Best outcomes occur when you attend your appointments regularly. Together we can determine how often you attend based on your needs. Normally at the beginning, it’s weekly sessions and as treatment progresses we can scale back to biweekly or monthly sessions.

  • I do my best to get you an appointment as soon as possible and can often get you in within a week or so. If I’m completely booked, I will try to provide referral or resources to ensure you get the help you need.

  • The first session is where we get to know each other. It’s an opportunity for you to ask questions about how therapy works. We will discuss what brings you in and I will ask questions in order to understand you and your concerns better. At the end of the appointment, we will discuss a plan to work on.

  • It varies for everyone. It depends on your needs and goals. We can work on developing a plan that determines how long would be beneficial for you.

  • You can select to privately pay for services, use out of network services, or use insurance. Fortaleza works with various insurances listed on the Services page.
